About the role

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people in Central Goldfields Shire? If so, we are looking for a qualified Youth Worker to work with young people to develop and deliver activities for young people.

As the Youth Worker, you will be responsible for the implementation of the Engage! and FReeZA funded programs, Youth Week activities, and other youth-focused activities and projects as identified. You will assist with the preparation of funding applications and complete all reporting requirements for the funded programs. You will support the activation of the Youth Hub located in Maryborough and work closely with partners to ensure the needs of young people are met.

You will plan, support, coordinate and deliver activities, programs and events with young people, for young people to ensure these activities reflect the interests of young people who live, study and work in Central Goldfields Shire. You will do this by creating an environment that encourages and empowers young people to participate in decision-making.

You will also work with our partners including local schools, Neighbourhood and Community Houses, service providers, community groups and our libraries to ensure their support of these programs, activities and events. Your aim will be to increase participation by young people through the provision of these activities in the eight townships.

Working within the multidisciplinary Community Partnerships team, you will contribute to a culture that fosters customer first, collaborative, and innovative thinking and approaches to service delivery.

You will have a Degree or Diploma in Youth Work or have less formal qualifications with relevant experience working or volunteering in the youth sector. You will have experience in implementing youth participation principles, proven ability in negotiating and developing positive working relationships, and excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to confidently and professionally communicate with a range of stakeholders.

You will be required to work outside of the normal spread of hours, which may require some weekends, to ensure the appropriate delivery of the Engage! and FReeZA programs.

The role is offered on a temporary part-time basis until 31 December 2021 which is when the Engage! and FReeZA funding ends, with a range of flexible working arrangements available.
